What educators are saying

My students enjoy completing these word ladders, so engaging and fun!!! They practice blending, segmenting, adding, and deleting phonemes and becoming more fluent in their reading.
I work in a district that does not have a lot of resources, so this is a perfect way to incorporate these into my small word study instruction. My students are engaged and the plans are thorough and easy to follow. 10/10 would recommend!

    Description

What if your students approached each week's spelling word list with eagerness and anticipation, ready to dive into the word study focus and strengthen their spelling skills? Why not consider launching students' new word lists with an engaging fill-in-the-blank spelling words activity appropriate for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade spelling programs? Each word list in this resource is aligned to the Words Their Way Sorts for Letter Name-Alphabetic Spellers, Within Word Pattern Spellers, Syllables and Affixes Spellers, and Derivational Relations Spellers 3rd Edition and appropriate for 4th grade, 5th grade, 6th grade, and beyond for differentiation and remediation. Please reach out if you need more information about the word lists included.

Unlock the List is a spelling activity that transforms your typical phonics or spelling word sort printable into a fun, challenging puzzle that increases students' engagement and enhances their spelling skills. With Unlock the List, students encounter their weekly or bi-weekly spelling word list with missing letters (beginning sounds, ending sounds, vowels, word parts, inflected endings, Greek and Latin affixes, prefixes, suffixes and more based on the level they are assigned to) and are challenged to "unlock the list" by filling in the blanks. It's a brain-filled exercise that will have them tapping into all of their prior knowledge of English letter patterns, word parts, and spelling skills.

Use this as an entry point into students' next word study list or as an activity they complete once they've done their word sorts and have been introduced to the word list.

As students unlock words, they'll begin noticing connections among them, prompting them to analyze spelling patterns, vowel sounds, and word structures in order to uncover the word study focus of the word list. Filling in the Missing Letters is an activity that not only strengthens spelling abilities but also nurtures critical thinking and analytical skills.
