Description
The 1948 Declaration of Human Rights has guided world politics since its inception, and thus should be taught in school.
To help students break down the information, I have created a guided reading sheet. To model the sheet, I completed the introduction with them, and then had students work in pair to reword a chosen article. Before allowing students to jigsaw the remaining source, I checked their work and then allowed them to share responses. As a class we came back together to discuss the three closing questions. Most students found the glossary, and working in pairs to be rather helpful.
As an extension activity we watched National Geographic's Inside North Korea to identify human rights violations that students saw throughout the film. This was an eye opening activity for them.
