What educators are saying

Great visual to explain the hand trick for memorizing the unit circle. Used this as practice for students to memorize.

Description

Unit Circle Trigonometry Cheat Sheet with hand trick memorizing details.

***Updated now with fill-in versions***

This is my version of the unit circle on steroids. I have tweaked it over 10 years and finally created the perfect teaching tool to fit on one page!

I have included a symbolic key for the range of inverse functions, alongs with information on Tangent and reciprocal identities.

Color coding emphasizes the special right triangle ratios. I have purposely placed the tangent values only in the first quadrant to emphasize the ratios.

Two versions of the unit circle are included, one with and without hand trick notes.

A separate page contains detailed notes on the hand trick that I like to use for memorizing the unit circle trigonometry facts. This trick is especially valuable for students who have a difficult time committing the trig facts to memory even after drawing countless number of special right triangles.

I like to place this sheet in a page protector to use as a dry erase tool. This is quite helpful when learning about coterminal and reference angles. I also stress the fact that a unit circle has a radius of one, so that quadrantal angles values are easily memorized.

Understand radian measure of an angle as the length of the arc on the unit circle subtended by the angle.
Explain how the unit circle in the coordinate plane enables the extension of trigonometric functions to all real numbers, interpreted as radian measures of angles traversed counterclockwise around the unit circle.
Use special triangles to determine geometrically the values of sine, cosine, tangent for π/3, π/4 and π/6, and use the unit circle to express the values of sine, cosine, and tangent for π–𝘹, π+𝘹, and 2π–𝘹 in terms of their values for 𝘹, where 𝘹 is any real number.
Use the unit circle to explain symmetry (odd and even) and periodicity of trigonometric functions.
Understand that restricting a trigonometric function to a domain on which it is always increasing or always decreasing allows its inverse to be constructed.
