What educators are saying

Would work well as written. I used it to review for a second half of US history course by having them research the events and make a timeline.
Another wonderful resource that my kids loved using, they did not even realize that they were reviewing, well they wouldn't have if I did not say anything!

Learning Objective

Students will review the entire year of US History (Exploration to 1877) by practicing the important skill of sequencing. They will put key events into chronological order with this fun review game!

Description

Are you looking for a way to review key events, documents, people from your year of early US History? This is a favorite of my 8th graders! I love it because I can review a huge amount of history in one class period!

  • There are 7 "mini-timelines" in this product (8 events each) that students (in small groups) race to put in order. Students really have to critically think, since sometimes the events are not related! For example, in one timeline you might find a battle, a court case and an important document.

After students compete to finish the timelines the fastest, you can extend this into a whole class HUGE time and challenge them to put all of them in order!

What is included:

  • 2 sizes of timelines (Small and large - you choose)
  • 7 mini-timelines (8 events each timeline) = 56 piece total
  • Each timeline has a different border, for easy use. I suggest you print off each mini-timeline with a different color of paper if you can.
  • Instructions for the class competition and for a large class timeline if you choose to "challenge" your students further = optional.
  • Key for all timelines

Why do students love it?

  • They are working in groups
  • It's a race, so they get to compete against other groups
  • They feel a huge sense of success when they complete it
  • They get to "show what they know" and it's awesome!

Why do teachers love it?

  • Once prepped, you can use it year after year
  • Kids are collaborating and making connections
  • The conversations you will overhear as a teacher will warm your heart ***Cue the they really "DID pay attention to my lesson " warm fuzzies.***
  • Highly engaging!
  • You review a TON of history in one lesson and get to "reteach" topics quickly if needed.

This product is aligned to the 2019 Texas TEKS.

  • ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Gina S. says, "We moved the desks out of the way and the students had a great time racing against each other to complete their time line. Lots of good questions and discussion on what happened first!"

This is a print it out, cut it out and go activity for you. If you can laminate it, it will last longer.
