    How to play

    You will need:

    2 different colored markers, pencils, highlighters or a set of tokens

    Each player will use a different color marker, highlighter or token;

    Take turns and read a word;

    Mark off your word by coloring or covering your hexagon;

    Win the game by coloring in a connected path from one side to the other before your opponent.

    You can move anywhere on your turn so try and block your opponent but still try and make your connected path.

    The games are an extension to UFLI Core Lessons:

    Step 4: blending drill

    Step 5: new concept

    Step 6: word work

    The games are a great way to provide extra practice in blending to reinforce the student’s ability to decode and to blend sounds together. Additional practice can help with automaticity in decoding;

    Once the student has received the lessons on the new concept work, the games can be used for additional practice at word-level skills. The student can read the word for reading practice while they are playing a fun and engaging game.

    The students can spell the word using their manipulative letters or a whiteboard and marker. Ask them to read the word to their playing partner, their playing partner can spell/write the word.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Honeycomb Race: These are awesome! Such an easy extension from UFLI lessons to use for centers, homework, small groups. I love these!

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My students love playing the Dots and Boxes game! It provides great practice and reinforcement of the skill we're working on in UFLI. I have extra copies that I keep for fast finishers, so they can play with a classmate.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Capture the Flag: This is a great resource! I love UFLI and having an additional game to practice the sound we are working on is very engaging for my students.
