What educators are saying

My students love the Pigeon books and this craftivity engaged them even more! It was a cute activity for Thanksgiving.
This was a wonderful alternative activity for my students that do not celebrate holidays. Instead of our traditional Disguise The Turkey project this was the perfect alternative.

Description

Here’s a new twist on a Thanksgiving favorite, disguise a turkey! Poor Tom Turkey doesn’t want to be eaten on Thanksgiving so he disguises himself as the Pigeon! Your students can help save Tom by convincing their families to eat hot dogs instead of turkey on Thanksgiving!

Based on a favorite Mo Willems character, students disguise their turkey as Pigeon to keep him from being eaten for Thanksgiving dinner. Next, students write from the turkey’s point of view to help Tom convince families to eat hot dogs instead of turkey for their holiday meal.

This flexible project has several elements that can be spread over a few days if needed. It includes a prewriting mini-lesson to set the purpose and explain the premise, a graphic organizer for prewriting, and disguise a turkey templates to make the craft booklet. Also includes matching publishing paper for longer writing. Anchor chart lesson visuals can be projected or printed and include color and blackline versions. I’ve even included some fun matching book marks to encourage your students to read over their Thanksgiving break!

The resource includes a digital disguise the turkey option on Google Slides. Students drag the moveable parts to build and disguise their turkey. They then type their reasons in the text boxes.

Includes PRINT and DIGITAL activities:

Prewriting mini-lesson to set the purpose and explain the premise

Projectable lesson visual

Prewriting graphic organizers (color & blackline)

Turkey Booklet with disguise the turkey as Pigeon templates

One-page color and cut version of the templates

Directions and Teacher’s Notes with photos

Matching bonus book marks (in color and blackline)

**Please see the PREVIEW for pictures of all that is included.
