What educators are saying

Perfect for what I was looking for! Quick and engaging way to practice with concepts that it is tedious to create your own resources for.

Description

The Triangle Congruency Mazes (Levels 1 & 2) activity is the perfect way to practice CPCTC! It can be used when initially teaching what it means to be congruent (distance and angles are preserved) and when emphasizing that "Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are Congruent" after they have learned the triangle congruence shortcuts.

  • This is an 8.5" x 11" non-editable Microsoft PowerPoint™ file that can be used digitally in an online classroom or printed for physical classroom use! Both mazes are offered in B&W and in Color (encouraged for online users!)
    • If used physically, simply print out the version that you want to use.
    • If used digitally, it is highly encouraged to simply have students trace out their path with their program's digital draw tools (highlighter or pen) instead of filling in the blanks
    • If you wish, you may choose to convert it to GoogleSlides™ on your own.
    • If you print it out for physical use, it is recommended that you save it as a PDF prior to printing.

Contents

  1. Teacher Details (2 slides)
  2. Note sheets (1 slide)
  3. Maze Levels 1 and 2 (4 slides total since each is provided in B&W and Color)
  4. Answer Key (2 slides)

Level 1

  • Students will solve 29 questions (and avoid 5 distractors)
  • Given a triangle congruence statement, students will find a corresponding part via CPCTC

Level 2

  • Students will solve 12 questions (and avoid 3 distractors) with 3 parts each
  • Given 2 triangles with congruent side & angle markings, students will:
  1. Name the 2nd triangle given the naming of the first,
  2. Determine if SSS, SAS, ASA, SAA, or H-L can be used,
  3. Find a corresponding part via CPCTC.

1 Review Note Sheet

1) How to mark/label:

  • Perpendicular Lines
  • Congruent segments & angles

2) Triangle Congruence Notes: SSS≅, SAS ≅, ASA ≅, SAA ≅, H-L ≅

3) CPCTC Notes (Definition and 2 examples of application)

This activity will likely take students 1hr to 90 minutes depending on how well they understand the concepts and how solidly they are working through the maze! Of course, actual time varies with each classroom and student.

Use the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motions to show that two triangles are congruent if and only if corresponding pairs of sides and corresponding pairs of angles are congruent.
Explain how the criteria for triangle congruence (ASA, SAS, and SSS) follow from the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motions.
Attend to precision. Mathematically proficient students try to communicate precisely to others. They try to use clear definitions in discussion with others and in their own reasoning. They state the meaning of the symbols they choose, including using the equal sign consistently and appropriately. They are careful about specifying units of measure, and labeling axes to clarify the correspondence with quantities in a problem. They calculate accurately and efficiently, express numerical answers with a degree of precision appropriate for the problem context. In the elementary grades, students give carefully formulated explanations to each other. By the time they reach high school they have learned to examine claims and make explicit use of definitions.
