Description

Don't be scared of change anymore. Change is nothing to be afraid of if you have this unit in your possession. It covers all of the basic changes (transformations) addressed in high school Geometry: slides, flips, turns, and size changes.

This is a unit bundle that currently contains presentation notes, student follow-along notes handouts, glossary, glossary cards, 8 practice worksheets, 6 section quizzes, a study guide, and a unit test. Other items will be added over time, and the price will be modified as necessary during this process.

I am and have been a high school Geometry teacher for 20+ years, and all of the content has been used in my classroom.

The notes introduce each concept along with a few examples. They are in-depth enough to cover a topic well, and, at the same time, are brief enough to allow you to add related topics/examples of your choice without being overwhelming or stifling your own creativity/flexibility.

The topics included are:

1) Translations - including left/right and up/down

2) Reflections - including over the x-axis, y-axis, y=x, y=-x, any vertical/horizontal line

3) Rotations - including 90 and 180 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise and about points other than the origin

4) Dilations - including enlargements, reductions, and problems in which the center of dilation is not the origin

5) Symmetry - including line/reflectional symmetry and a brief mention of rotational/point symmetries

6) Vocabulary - 23 terms/theorems/postulates

The preview contains a sampling of the notes, assessments, and practice.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Represent transformations in the plane using, e.g., transparencies and geometry software; describe transformations as functions that take points in the plane as inputs and give other points as outputs. Compare transformations that preserve distance and angle to those that do not (e.g., translation versus horizontal stretch).
Develop definitions of rotations, reflections, and translations in terms of angles, circles, perpendicular lines, parallel lines, and line segments.
Given a geometric figure and a rotation, reflection, or translation, draw the transformed figure using, e.g., graph paper, tracing paper, or geometry software. Specify a sequence of transformations that will carry a given figure onto another.
Use geometric descriptions of rigid motions to transform figures and to predict the effect of a given rigid motion on a given figure; given two figures, use the definition of congruence in terms of rigid motions to decide if they are congruent.
