This ❤ Google Interactive Activity ❤ is an engaging practice of "Transformation of Parent Function" .

GOAL of this Activity

Students are given a total of 12 equations. For each of the questions they're asked to describe the transformation and the graph of the function. The ultimate goal is that every student would need to successfully understand the meaning of the function rule and how it is related to the graph of the function.

There are 4 Parent Functions used in this activity

☑ Linear Parent Function (3 Questions)

☑ Absolute Value Parent Function (3 Questions)

☑ Quadratic Parent Function (3 Questions)

☑ Square Root Parent Function (3 Questions)

Students are expected to be familiar with these transformations:

☑ Horizontal Translation (Right and Left)

☑ Vertical Translation (Up and Down)

☑ Reflection across the x-axis

☑ Stretching Vertically

☑ Compressing Vertically

How does this activity work?

There are 2 Levels in this activity to allow for DIFFERENTIATION. The First Level has 6 questions in one group and 6 in the other. The Transformation and the Graphs puzzle pieces are on the same page as the questions. The students would only need to drag and drop.

In the Second Level the 12 Transformation pieces are all together in a Bank and the 12 Graph Pieces are all together in another Bank. Students would have to search deeper for the matching pieces.

At the end, based on their matches, students would need to records the corresponding letters of these matching pieces next to the question numbers in a chart to be shared with the teacher.

When to Use?

This activity is great to assign as a homework, in-class work, Bell Work, using Google Slides. My students are always engaged with Google Slides. This is FUN is the new motto in my classroom. When I assign an activity to be completed at home, some students use their computers, some use their phones, while others use their IPADs. As long as there is a Google Drive there is a way.

As the answer key is included in the file. I usually share it when all assignments are turned in "Electronically"
