What educators are saying

I modified the assignment for a non AP environmental science class and it was great! My students loved it and helped them understand the tragedy of the commons better.
This was an excellent lab that provided a hands on simulation of the Tragedy of the Commons. My students loved it and after doing the lab, they were able to describe to me what is meant by the tragedy of the commons.

Description

So much fun for students! This is a lab they remember all year, and you know it's a win when they put photos of your class on their snapchat story :) Simple setup, and includes detailed, step-by-step teacher instructions for directing lab during class. Materials needed: colored goldfish, straws, butcher paper, markers. This lab is readily available for free, but my version greatly simplifies it for teachers, and enhances it for students by using different colors of goldfish to represent different species and including some other surprise 'events' to introduce during the lab.
