Torii Gate Silhouette Art Project

This is a 24 slide PowerPoint that introduces students to the torii gates of Japan. It discusses the Shinto faith and contains multiple images of torii gates in Japan. Slides 14 - 24 walk students through the process of creating a torii gate silhouette using an easy graphite transfer, black permanent markers and watercolors.

This lesson has been successfully implemented with 5th grade students but can be used for older students. This lesson can be used as a long term sub lesson, home school art lesson, culture lesson with art integration, after school club activities or a summer art camp art project.
