What educators are saying

Topic was very engaging to my students. They enjoyed reading about this debate and then writing their own claim.
It went well with the current event at the time. I don't know if I'd use it again since it already came and went.

Description

Can the US Government really ban TikTok, the most popular app in the world? And if this happens will other countries like Australia and the United Kingdon follow suit?

Believe it or not, a comprehensive TikTok ban is being considered in 2023, with wide-reaching implications for students, teachers and everyday people.

In this lesson, explore the arguments for and against a TikTok ban with your students, before they formalise their own opinions by writing a persuasive email to an elected representative.

Part of my best-selling, ‘High Interest Reading Comprehension’ series, this no-prep, digital and print lesson includes:

  • Hook and vocabulary-focused pre-reading activity
  • Original scaffolded article on the 2023 (proposed) TikTok ban.
  • Multiple choice reading comprehension (digital version is self-marking)
  • Short answer and extended response questions.
  • Each lesson includes fully worked examples to use as a grading guide or mentor text.

I hope this lesson is as fun, rigorous and impactful with your students as it has been with mine! Happy teaching :)
