Three Times Lucky, by Sheila Turnage: A PDF and TpT Digital Novel Study

This is a ready-to-use, custom-created packet for teachers to use with grades 5-8 who are reading the Newbery Honor novel, Three Times Lucky, by Sheila Turnage. This book is the first in a series of four. Read more about them below. The materials are printable to create worksheets or workbooks; or, when purchased the buyer can choose to have this exported as an Easel digital and students can receive it digitally and complete and turn-in digitally as well.

This novel study includes a vocabulary bookmark for student use while reading, vocabulary lists for each assignment, 33 student pages designed to reinforce essential common core reading and writing skills, plus an answer key for the student booklet. In addition, a listing of Common Core Standards (CCSS) supported in this packet is included.

The student booklet divides the text into seven reading assignments of about 40 pages each and provides 3-4 pages of questions and activities to go with each one. Skills addressed include extending vocabulary, demonstrating comprehension, recognizing figurative language (personification, similes, metaphors, idioms), understanding setting & plot, determining theme, inferring, explaining, recognizing point-of-view, character traits, character evaluation, identifying mystery clues, recognizing parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives), and using context clues.

The student pages are designed for independent work so that students may be working on this in class while the teacher is meeting with another group or it could be used as student homework.
