Description

Fun, simple, and effective mini labs for teaching thermohaline circulation. There are two mini labs included. The first lab leads students to determine that when cold water is placed on top of warm water, mixing occurs due to the cold water being more dense. The second lab follows the same general procedure, but looks at the effect of salt concentration on density and mixing of waters.

Materials needed: Water, salt, beakers, test tubes, food dye, pipettes

Teacher directions, 2 student labs, and answer keys included
