What educators are saying

This is the perfect addition to all of my themed therapy units. Great to send home for parents to target articulation and vocabulary goals, too. Thanks for another great resource!
This resource has been extremely helpful to use with all of my other themed therapy materials! Thank you for creating these awesome word lists!

Description

Use these themed articulation words lists to incorporate play based learning into your speech therapy sessions! Having these speech sound word lists handy allows you to quickly think of target words that you can incorporate into any games, books, songs, activities, and crafts that you are using.

These no-prep sheets are perfect for summer speech therapy homework, push-in speech therapy, and individual therapy. Just grab and go!

Themes include:

  • seasons (winter, fall, spring, summer)
  • holidays (Christmas, Valentine's Day, Halloween)
  • year round themes (pets, monsters, vehicles, zoo, ocean, food, superheroes, sports, farm)

Each Handout has over 200 Words. There are 11 words for each phoneme in mixed word positions (except th which has an average of 7 words).

How can you use these handouts?

  1. Pair with a quick themed turn taking game for lots of practice.
  2. Write your target words on a sticky note and have them handy when playing with themed toys. Sometimes I like to think of how I will elicit the words in play before the session (for more information about how to elicit speech sounds in play, check out this blog post).
  3. Give your student’s teacher some target words to practice that are part of a theme being used in the classroom. You can even encourage the teacher to write them on the whiteboard/smart board to remember to use them!
  4. Send home seasonal target words for practice. It is much easier for parents to practice speech sounds if the words are naturally occurring in everyday conversation!
  5. Use a themed picture book to go on a picture scavenger hunt for your target words.
  6. Mix up the word lists! Read words from different lists and have the child say the word and then tell you if they are part of your theme or not. You can ‘keep’ the words that are part of your theme and use them in a later activity.
  7. Choose a few target words before a session and try to plan activities that feature that sound.
