The Victorians History Unit || Week 5 of 12 || The Workhouse

Week 5 of 12- A lesson focused on exploring the horrific treatment of the poor in Workhouses across Victorian Britain. Diary writing and newspaper report focus.

This product contains a 26-slide Teaching PowerPoint and multiple worksheets and online activities that guide students through understanding and discussing the information contained within the slides. The emphasis is on writing in both diary style and as a journalist in a newspaper report. In addition to completing two pieces of writing, children will gain an understanding into how individuals ended up in the workhouse, and what life was like inside.

The activities included within this pack can be conducted as a class or in smaller groups, both physically (using differentiated fact sheets that could be printed and laminated) or digitally (using embedded links and QR codes to appropriate and reliable sources).
