Description
A numbers, skip counting, and art activity based on the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a fun math project for counting, ordering, sequencing and patterns with numbers and colors. Students will number their caterpillar segments, color them in a pattern, cut the segments out, and order them in the correct sequence to create their caterpillar. Glue head and segments to 6”x18” construction paper and add antennae and boots to complete the collage. Extension: Add soil under boots and sun in the sky if time allows.
This product is complete with
• 1 – 10 caterpillar sheet
• Blank caterpillar sheet for students to number as directed
• Colored sample sheets for students to see the complete collage, before and after
Students love to write with markers, color, cut, and glue, so get them excited about numbers and patterns.
Science:
Add math to a science lesson on metamorphosis. The caterpillar collage project makes a great addition to any bulletin board!
Art:
Create an AB pattern with dark and light green caterpillar body segments. Color on the caterpillar segments is created by blending different combinations of green, yellow-green, and yellow.
Use markers to draw and crayons to color the antennae and boots.
Add soil under boots and sun in the sky if time allows.
