What educators are saying

My students enjoyed this resource. It helped them see the triangles inside the unit circle. They pulled it out in class as a reference often during our trigonometry unit.
Students enjoyed making the circle. It helped them understand the connections between special right triangles and the unit circle.

Description

This interactive unit circle is a hands-on way for students to become familiar with and master the unit circle in your trig class!  Students are able to manipulate the special right triangles by spinning them in the different quadrants.

Students will:

  • Cut, glue, and fasten the included pieces to create their own hands-on unit circle

Some discussion topics can include:

  • Equivalent angles in degrees and radians
  • Finding side lengths of the special triangles
  • Using triangle side lengths to find the coordinates along the unit circle
  • Radius of the unit circle
  • Positive angles, negative angles
  • ... and more!

This unit circle interactive notebook is a downloadable pdf that includes:

  • Template to print necessary parts to assemble the unit circle
  • Directions for both teacher and student prep and assembly

What you’ll need to provide:

  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Paper fasteners (brads)
  • Paper and cardstock
  • Hole punch

Understand radian measure of an angle as the length of the arc on the unit circle subtended by the angle.
Explain how the unit circle in the coordinate plane enables the extension of trigonometric functions to all real numbers, interpreted as radian measures of angles traversed counterclockwise around the unit circle.
Use special triangles to determine geometrically the values of sine, cosine, tangent for π/3, π/4 and π/6, and use the unit circle to express the values of sine, cosine, and tangent for π–𝘹, π+𝘹, and 2π–𝘹 in terms of their values for 𝘹, where 𝘹 is any real number.
Use the unit circle to explain symmetry (odd and even) and periodicity of trigonometric functions.
