Description

This product includes the link to the 1894 short story "The Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin.

The lesson provided allows a quick and easy introduction to the historical context of the 19th century, including Chopin's personal background and the women's suffrage movement.

Also included is a before reading activating strategy which will build anticipation and bring to light prior knowledge. This helps students recognize the irony present in the story, make connections to the text, and identify how the historical background of the 19th century greatly impacts the plot.
