Description

Two of the deadliest pandemics in modern history have been the misnamed Spanish Flu that began in 1918, and covid-19 which began in 2019.

This lesson utilizes the Compare and Contrast strategy, as well as several hook, literacy, and cooperative learning strategies, in order to help students understand these two pandemics, and develop hypotheses as to what we can learn from these diseases and the responses to them in order to help prepare for future pandemics.

Utilizing research-based practice-proven teaching strategies, this lesson can be used in any social studies, American, or world history class as well as in an interdisciplinary lesson with science.

This self-contained teaching guide contains links to everything you will need for the lesson; step by step instructions for you, screencasts explaining the strategies used, Google Slides for use with your whiteboard, Google Doc note pages for students, an assessment, and a section with ideas of how to follow up on the lesson.
