Description

SWBAT:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the use, conjugations, and more, by reviewing the conditional endings within a chart that provides specific knowledge about how to use the conditional tense and why. Please see the link for an easy-to-understand clip about the uses and conjugations of the conditional tense by clicking on the link. This will help students comprehend the information even further.

  • View the chart for the /ar/, /er/, and /ir/ ending verbs for the regular Conditional Tense. This will be followed by playing a quizizz game where students must practice receiving a pronoun/article and matching it to the correct form (conjugation)of the conditional tenses. This is a fun interactive game where students may play in teams, in pairs, in groups, or as a whole class activity. Please see the link to play the game within the easel activity.

  • Focus on learning the one irregular verb in the conditional tense and it is /hacer/ = "to do" or "to make". Making it /haceria/ I would do or make.

  • Please see the chart of all the conjugations in the conditional tense for the verb /hacer/.

  • Que harias si? y Que harias tu? "What would you do if"/What would you do along with example sentences within a chart that explains hypothetic situations in both Spanish and English.

Utilize the game-based Spinning wheel:

  • Directions: Each student will have a chance to spin the wheel translate a simple question about a hypothetical situation "Que harias tu? and provide a response using the conditional tense with a high intermediate of beginning-level language.

  • This depends on the level and needs of your students. This game is super fun and gives each student practice! Be sure to click on the link to play the game within the easel activity.

  • Practice their speaking skills in a group setting. This can be done within the class setting as well as, on Zoom within Breakout Rooms. There are several fun yet, hypothetical questions for students to practice asking and responding to the prompts/questions. They are displayed in both Spanish and English for your choice to differentiate the lesson according to the needs and levels of the students. Not only does this activity facilitate ongoing conversations in Spanish allowing time to practice what they have learned during class, but being in groups also takes the pressure off so they feel comfortable speaking in front of their peers and therefore will build confidence as they begin to practice when they are in a real-world setting.

  • I also give the students an option to write down simple sentences to prepare them to speak in their groups. I give them space to have a conversation without me, as their teaching hovers over what they are saying.

  • Exit Ticket: How do I know they have learned to content, especially in the area of speaking?

  • For the last activity, you will see a variety of Exit tickets. Students must provide a question and short response before leaving class. There is also the option of having the student write a question and a simple response on paper and have it in before leaving class. Please see these examples at the end of the activity and I do provide other forms of exit tickets for those students who require differentiated instruction.

  • Formative Assessment: Please see the EASEL Formative Assessment created to measure student progress based on their understanding and use of the Spanish Conditional Tense. This Assessment can easily be assigned to students to individually assess their comprehension, learning needs, academic progress, etc. for this lesson. In addition, the formative assessment is designed to indicate if a review of concepts is required or to continue to drive further instruction.
