What educators are saying

I used this with my seniors when we read the short story "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and they really enjoyed it!
We read the short story and then followed with a viewing of this movie at the end of our short stories unit. It was very engaging, and I always feel better abut showing films when the students have to use their critical thinking skills!

Description

This CCSS aligned set encourages students to analyze James Thurber’s short story through a variety of lenses. After reading the story, students complete a general analysis of the work, play the role of an armchair psychologist and practice their text structure analysis skills before comparing and contrasting the story with the 2013 film. Students write a comparison essay as their final assessment.

Includes:
* a link to the short story
* a 10 question reading quiz
* analysis questions with teacher notes
* a psychological evaluation activity with teacher notes
* a plot structure analysis activity with teacher notes
* a story and movie comparison graphic organizer with teacher notes
* a compare and contrast essay assignment with peer editing handout and a CCSS aligned writing rubric
