This resource includes everything you need to build a sound wall that is aligned with the science of reading in your classroom, which also allows you to use YOU OWN clipart! It includes phoneme-grapheme cards for all 44 consonant and vowel phonemes in the English language. Each card includes a mouth articulation image, phoneme label, a space to add a keyword picture, & mini-cards for all of the graphemes that can spell that speech sound in the English language. Each grapheme card includes a "frequency bar" that states how frequently that particular spelling is used to represent the sound in writing. (Example: A 25% would indicate that the grapheme/spelling on that card is used to spell that phoneme in 25% of English written words.) Grapheme cards are included for all spellings of each phoneme, but it is suggested that pre-k and kindergarten teachers begin by posting only the most commonly used grapheme under each phoneme card. More complex grapheme spellings can be posted as they are taught.

This resource also includes an entire set of consonant and vowel phoneme-grapheme display cards that do not have keyword pictures spaces designed in (for those who prefer not to use keyword pics or do not want the box to add a pic, and includes all phoneme-grapheme cards fit on one page for a quick print and post version!

"Formation Family" articulation headers and "Manner of Airflow" sidebar titles are also included in this product. These column and row title headers are one of the things that make this sound wall resource so unique and kid-friendly! Kids can be easily taught how to use the title headers as reference guides when using the sound wall as a tool to problems solve! This resource also comes with a handheld guidebook contains all the information you will need to teach all 44 of the English phonemes to your emerging readers! This little guidebook will provide you with information about the various "Formation Families" and "Manners of Airflow" that are used to create all consonant phonemes. Included are information cards for each consonant phoneme that tell you what Formation Family it belongs to, what manner of airflow is required to produce the sound, and principle spellings for that phoneme in order of frequency. Also included are vowel phoneme information cards that list the type of vowel and their principle spellings in order of frequency.

Basically, the guidebook that is included (in this version WITHOUT KEYWORD PICS) is a teacher's ultimate "cheat sheet" for all of the important phoneme information you need to know to help your students develop a crisp phonological representation of every single speech sound in the English language! (And if you watched my FREE "Science-of-Reading" training sessions in my @TheScienceOfLiteracyLearning Facebook group! Remember that proficient readers store letters and words in permanent memory by "mapping" them onto clear, crisp phonological representations of known phonemes (or familiar strings of phonemes)! If we don't explicitly draw attention to the fine details of how each phoneme sounds and is specifically articulated, there will be no "mental velcro" to "stick" letters and spellings to in permanent memory. Remember, proficient readers DO NOT memorize words as whole pictures! They orthographically map graphemes (letters) onto known and familiar speech sounds (phonemes).

Learning about the 44 phonemes of the English language and using a sound wall in your classroom will help you guide your students to develop robust phonological representations of all phonemes, more successfully map graphemes to those phonemes, and begin to store familiar strings of phonemes and their corresponding spellings into memory to build a rich "sight word" lexicon. Basically, this little guidebook will put you well on your way to re-wiring students' brains... therefore helping you become the educational "brain surgeon" that you were always intended to be!
