Description

Introducing Backpack Jack's STEM STEAM adventures! This bundle includes 9 complete STEM lessons, 9 student STEM activity books, 9 engineering posters, and additional support materials and resources. Also attached are the Backpack Jack poster packs, exit tickets, and an introductory Jack lesson.

Searching for STEM lessons to do with my students, I found that there were lots of STEM "activities" but very few intro-to-close all inclusive lesson plans. That's where the idea for Backpack Jack was born. When my students see me pull out his backpack, they know that a fun-filled STEM adventure is headed their way.

Included in this Mega-Pack, you will find the following lessons:

--In the Windy Woods (building a shelter)

--On the Placid Pond (constructing a boat)

--From Here to There (building a bridge)

--Build Like a Beaver (making a dam)

--"Eggs"ellent Engineering (designing a container to protect an egg)

--A Place to Picnic (constructing a table)

--Look Out Below! (designing a parachute)

--A Bird's-Eye View (building a lookout tower)

--Protect the Map! (waterproofing an object)

Each lesson in the Backpack Jack series begins by introducing (or becoming reacquainted with) Jack, a fun-loving outdoor adventurer. Students will read Jack's challenge, and work collaboratively with their classmates to come up with a solution. To add to the challenge, the only materials students may use are the odds and ends in Jack's backpack! (All materials are readily available and free or very inexpensive.)

Each lesson contains:

--lesson introduction

--student materials list

--teacher prep and directions

--a full-color classroom poster

--8-page student booklet, guiding students through the engineering process (4 full-sized pages, printed back-to-back, folded in half)

--1 follow-up/reflection page
