Description

The Rule of Three Chapter Questions and Answer Key / Teacher Notes.

My students loved this novel! "The Rule of Three" by Eric Walters explores the consequences of a global catastrophe that disrupts modern technology, leaving people to survive in a world without electricity. Phones and most cars stop working and the main character, Adam, is left to navigate his new situation.

This is appropriate for grades 7-8 or grades 9-12 at the locally developed/workplace/essential level. ENG1L, ENG2L, ENG3E, ENG4E. This booklet could work as an independent novel study for these students, but was written to accompany a read aloud. I used this novel study in ENG2L and ENG3E and my students loved the book. It is the first in a series so it was nice to get them started on the series and some continued it on their own after the novel study. Please note that there are weapons, violence, death, and a brief mention of sex in the novel, but nothing too graphic.

This booklet contains mostly question and short answer chapter questions. There are some matching, true and false, multiple choice, sketching, and fill in the blank. An answer key is provided, and notes at the start of chapters where to pause reading so students can make predictions. At the start of the booklet there are general pages that could accompany any chapter. This could be included or omitted. There are also a couple pages at the end that could be omitted. There are a few recommended extensions activities in the teacher notes.

I print this as a booklet on 11x17 paper. It could also be printed on 8.5 x 11 for older students with better handwriting.

This is a fully editable Google Doc, so student could also type their answers in if needed.

I hope these questions save you time and provide an interesting story for your students! In my class we would usually read 2-3 chapters at once, as many are quite short. Questions are provided for all chapters, but sometimes we would skip answering chapter questions as a "treat," or we would just answer them as a class.
