Description

This reader's theater is for the entire class! You will need at least 11 students but more is always better. This ties into my other twisted fairy tales except that it was written to do as a class. I split my class into two groups and both groups practice. When we perform we discuss what things we liked about each group. I use this to introduce the small group reader's theaters I have them do the rest of the year. I have also come back to the script at the end of the year to perform in front of the school - they loved it! In the script students get to discuss their principal! You’ve heard of the Emperor who had no clothes. This is a school version of it. Mr. Gorgeous is obsessed with his looks and his clothes. One day some students decide that it is time to teach him a lesson. They convince Mr. Gorgeous to let them make him a magical outfit that can only be seen by smart people. No one wants to admit that they can’t see the outfit so they lie and say it looks good. At the assembly, a little kid calls out that Mr. Gorgeous has no pants and - finally - all admit it. Everyone learns a lesson and students happily donate clothes for Mr. Gorgeous to put on.

*Be aware that some 3rd graders will need some help with a few words. The biggest one for my group was narcissism. I use reader's theaters to encourage my students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. Most of my scripts are in black and white so they photo copy easily and do not waste ink. You know why I like small group reader's theaters but there are times it is fun to do one as a class.

My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone and I hope that your students enjoy this script as much as mine did. If you like this script look for more twisted fairy tale scripts at my store. Please let me know how things go!
