Always getting a sub who does *not* know German ?

Urgently need a quick sub lesson for tomorrow ?

Required to turn in three days' worth of emergency lesson plans that first week of school and no time to do it ?

This sub plan - 'The Pennsylvania Dutch' - will keep students connected to German and learning at the same time about a unique group of people originally from Germany and Switzerland.

In this plan students read a two-page story in English on the background of The Pennsylvania Dutch (focusing on the Amish) and answer three pages of Review Questions based on the reading.

1. A two-page reading in English on The Pennsylvania Dutch

2. Three pages of Review Questions

3. An answer key.

This plan is suitable for any level. I always had so many

preps that, to simplify things for the sub and to save time, I had

all my classes do the same plan in my absence.

It worked remarkably well.
