Description
A complete set of chapter summaries for a novel focus unit on The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Written in English with a simplified vocabulary, these summaries work well for students who are in beginner to moderate levels on the WiDA Can-Do Descriptors scale. Each chapter includes a suggested activity (full activities not included). Following the summaries are four separate Cloze activities to encourage understanding of the plot, characters, setting, and theme. Cloze activities check chapters in groups of three.
Used successfully in 8th grade regular education language arts classroom with Spanish-speaking students on Level 1 and Level 2 of WiDA Can-Do Descriptors scale. The set includes some phrases translated into Spanish. These may need to be modified for other languages.
