This is a great resource for Black History Month, Women's History Month, Constitution Day, social studies, American history, literacy instruction, and nonfiction book study. The resource includes discussion question/task cards, literal and textual comprehension prompts, biography study guidance, and reflection writing prompts for the beautiful picture book biography of The Oldest Student, Mary Walker. It also includes 11 extension activities to use with this book study for cross-curricular enrichment. The resource is appropriate for classroom and distance learning, and the book is a great overview of the life of an important person in American History. Mary was the oldest student to learn to read, and she lived 121 years. This book is a beautifully written and illustrated picture book. Mary Walker's perseverance, commitment, and passion for learning, as well as her love for people and America, are highlighted by the story. Her life and triumphs are inspiring and provide a positive role model for students.
