What educators are saying

Thank you! I love assigning Reader's Theaters, especially on holidays. My students really enjoy them and I feel as though I'm "celebrating" yet they're still learning.
The students broke into small groups and acted out the story. We came back together at the end of class and performed for each other. It held their attention well and they enjoyed the story.

Description

This Reader's Theater is based on The Night Before Valentine's Day written by Natasha Wing.

One script has roles for four students and comes in a color-coded version as well as a black-and-white version.

The other script allows you to write in reader's names so that you may have as many readers as you'd like!

Each script is three pages long.

Headbands/necklaces are included in case you'd like to present this to the class next door, at an assembly, to your own class, etc.

Reader's Theaters are wonderful ways to promote children's love of reading. They also promote reading and speaking fluency!

I love to let the children switch roles after they have learned theirs. This provides them an opportunity to learn new words and new ways to read with expression.

I also leave the scripts around the room after we have finished with them. The students like to go and pick them up and read them. I see them getting into little groups and reading the "play" all over again if they have completed their work or have free reading time.

You can definitely get a lot of mileage out of Reader's Theaters!

A cut-and-paste rhyming word activity is also included.
