Both teachers and students love these unique and challenging critical thinking activities. Students will make three wishes of their own → then consider what their consequences might be. They will also rewrite the ending, compare the story to a film, and much more.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s included:
★ Plot Diagram - Can your students complete a plot diagram for “The Monkey’s Paw?”
★ Make Three Wishes - Students will make three wishes and consider the consequences of each wish.
★ Rewrite the Ending - Have students take the story down a different path by tweaking the story.
★ Research Superstitions - Take the superstition theme a step further and have students research specific superstitions. What does it mean? Where did it originate?
★ Compare & Contrast - Watch a film adaptation of “The Monkey’s Paw” and compare it to the short story. Add another layer by watching a third version and comparing all three!
★ Thank You Letter - Sneak in some theme work by asking students to write the short story a thank you letter - thanking it for teaching them a specific lesson.
