Description

The Monkey King Movie Guide challenges students to discuss and compare the differing perspectives of the Buddha and the Jade Emperor toward The Monkey King. Examine life advice from the old monkey and how it contrasts with The Monkey King's approach to life. Analyze the significance of different storytelling techniques like montages and how they add to the movie's impact. Discuss examples of irony, foreshadowing and twists in the narrative, and explore what these reveal about the characters. Evaluate The Monkey King's relationships and his quest for immortality. Identify literary devices in song lyrics and predicting character intentions. Finally, reflect on personal and cultural symbols of authority, the transformation of characters, and the movie's relationship to its ancient source material.

This resource is meant to supplement the viewing of The Monkey King, see the IMDb listing here.
