The Listening Walk: Exploring Sounds through Literature (Music, Language Arts)

This series of four lessons is aimed at Kindergarten through Grade 2, with possible adaptation/extension for older grades. Using Paul Showers' book, The Listening Walk, students will explore environmental sounds and think about how music is inspired by nature. Students will create music and graphic scores of their own and perform their music with the help of a student conductor. Read more about it here.

This plan addresses several of the new Music Standards (Cr1, Cr2, Re7, Cn11) as well as several of the CCSS.ELA-Literacy Standards (RL strand).

It is primarily aimed at Music Specialists, but could also be incorporated into classroom literacy lessons or extracted for your Literacy Center.
