What educators are saying

We have done this novel many times, and this resources was great addition to the unit. I appreciate being able to add in digital resources.
Thank you! I’ve been using this with my students, and I love how each activity is setup. My students enjoy it too and think it looks appealing.

Description

C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a perfect novel study for analyzing story elements, characters and theme! Even if your students have seen this great Narnia movie or read the book, they are sure to gain a deeper understanding with this novel unit! Since it's LOW PREP that's just icing on the cake for you!

Unit Includes

1. The Scope and Sequence of lessons

(runs for 23 days - suggestions given to modify to shorten the length if needed)

2. Standards and Projects page

3. Student pages with directions (PDF version AND links to Google Slides version)

  • Directions are written for your students to make this novel EASY to use in a digital/remote learning environment, but they can easily be your own lesson plans
  • There is not an answer key for the student pages. Most of these pages are open questions, and students have the freedom to state their own thoughts and ideas and support with textual evidence.

4. Character Traits sorting activity (This is a Google Slides only link.)

5. Character trait lists for each main character – students can keep track of traits while they read, filling in traits and their textual support.

6. Chapter Questions (printable and digital options - Self Grading if using Google Forms links!)

7. Instagram Character Project file - includes directions and rubric for easy grading!

8. Movie Bingo (watch for these events while watching the movie!)

9. Review Game (completely editable Power Point game - Jeopardy style game)

10. Google Forms Quizzes - self grading

11. Google Forms Final Test - self grading

** I have included simple, step-by-step directions for how to use the digital products in Google Classroom.

** There is also a supplemental file (Gospel Pictures in Narnia) for those of you who teach in a religious setting.

Comprehension Skills:

1. Intense vocabulary focus for each chapter - using definitions and synonyms. Template/graphic organizer covers 3 chapters at a time.

2. Setting - comparing the realistic setting with Narnia, and determining if the setting affects the problems that develop

3. Character Analysis - identifying specific character traits using textual evidence

4. Varying Perspectives

5. Story Elements

6. Problem Identification - multiple problems, internal vs. external

7. Decision Making

8. Making Inferences

9. Summarizing

10. Journal Writing

You don't need anything else, except the books, to teach this novel unit.

Teacher Testimonials

This book study had all the components I was looking for and kept my students engaged. The graphic organizers helped with the lower ones, but the question style was advanced enough that my higher students still had to think. Overall, a great resource. - Suzanne B.

This resource is very extensive and has a lot of elements I found very valuable. I was able to get Reading and Writing assignments from this resource, which I loved. Some of my kids absolutely loved the Instagram project. I loved the writing prompts. I usually set a timer and had them respond within that time frame. Loved the story elements components and the self grading forms! - Jennifer C.

Great resource. Loved the digital comprehension questions. It was a great tool to use to check in on students comprehension and held them accountable while working remotely. - Gina V.

I had never taught this novel before and needed an engaging resource to assist with distance learning. Students loved the novel and the materials were easy to use online with students using iPads. - Carolyn P.
