Check out the preview for a closer look!

Middle school ELA teachers love using The Landlady Escape Room to conclude Roald Dahl’s scary story because it’s printable, digital, and editable. After reading and discussing The Landlady, your students will work through four breakout tasks.

What breakout tasks will students be required to complete?

Plot Structure - Students will review various elements of the plot structure of The Landlady

Conflict - Students will review literary conflict in general as well as the conflicts present in The Landlady

Theme - Students must identify the most likely theme of the scary short story, plus identify textual evidence that supports it

Literary Elements - Students will review miscellaneous literary elements in The Landlady, like characterization, the setting, vocabulary, and more.

How does The Landlady Escape Room work?

When you make your purchase, you will download a ZIP folder. The ZIP folder will contain a PowerPoint (for editing questions/items) and a PDF.

  • Use the PowerPoint to edit or customize any questions as needed.
  • Use the PDF to access the printable version, which requires about 15 minutes to print and assemble.
  • Use the PDF to access the digital version by clicking on the force-copy Google links embedded on pg. 5.

The digital version is housed on Google Slides & Google Forms.

  • Spend 15 minutes working through the Google Form, completing each task yourself, before assigning it to students.

You can use The Landlady escape room with Breakout EDU kits, Google Forms, or paper pencil. I’ve included options for ALL three methods!

LET’S TALK TECH

This product will work with Breakout EDU Kits. However, they are not required. Some familiarity with Google Forms and Google Slides is required.

If you assign the Google activities and your students receive an "Access Denied" error message, it is because your district has blocked students from opening Google files owned by someone outside your district. You can solve this by making a "teacher copy" of the activities and then embedding your document links within the Google form.
