This is a complete unit geared towards reading, writing, and the history of the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. It contains 37 pages of student activities that involve: guided reading materials, constructed response paragraphs, and multiple choice quizzes to gauge reading comprehension. Lesson topics in the packet include: early "Days of Thanks", Harvest Festivals, Traditional Foods of Thanksgiving, the story of Squanto, the First Thanksgiving, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Thanksgiving Day Football, the story of how the Thanksgiving celebration became an official holiday, and three reading activities on the Pilgrims. Every reading topic also includes questions geared toward the 4th and 5th grade Common Core literature and reading standards. Objectives include Range of Reading, Key Ideas and Details, Level of Text Complexity, Phonics and Word Recognition, Writing, and Fluency.
