Description

The poem, "The Hill We Climb" written and recited by Amanda Gorman at President Biden's inauguration was powerful and moving. In this activity students select links to view Gorman reciting the poem at the inauguration and then read through the transcript. Students then answer questions regarding lines from the poem. Students also analyze the poem's tone, purpose, subject, as well as the literary devices Gorman used within her poem. Finally students are challenged to form a written response analyzing the effectiveness of Gorman's message. This is a great activity for students to reflect over current events as well as this powerful moment in US history.
