What educators are saying

I use "Highway Man" as a narrative poem. So my students were supposed to look for plot points as well as figurative language, this did a good job reviewing plot terms and also asking them to pay close attention to detail.

Description

We taught this poem in 7th grade English, and didn't really care for the selection test that came with our textbook. Since we have raised our expectations for student achievement, the selection tests with the book are often too basic. This test covers the areas that we emphasized in teaching the poem: plot structure (always something we cover in narrative prose and poetry), inference, using evidence from the text to support evaluative statements, character motivation, and figurative language/poetic devices. Because our state tests are changing format this year, there are multiple response and essay type questions, along with multiple choice.
