What educators are saying

My students loved this resource! I worked in a special education classroom with a few high disability high schoolers and they really enjoyed doing this game/activity together.
My class LOVED this activity to end our year. They did research for their groceries, for the utilities and to know what they could afford to buy (or not buy). Definitely something I will use again!

Description

I created this project to give kids an idea of how much things cost and how hard their parents work to provide for them.

The idea is this. Each student is given a family with a designated number of children, a profession ranging from a movie theater concession stand worker making minimum wage to a doctor making $200,000 a year. Each student then buys a home and a vehicle. They check grocery ads and total up their grocery lists. They speak with their parents to learn how much their monthly bills like electricity and cable are. Then they see if they are over or under their budget and what needs to be done to make sure they stay within their budget, It will definitely give them an idea of how things work. It hopefully will also give them the incentive to work hard to earn a profession that pays more than minimum wage. :)
