Are you looking for social studies text that infuse literacy strategies to help students comprehend?

This text is about the First Great Awakening and two of its leaders, Jonathan Edwards and George Whitefield. It aligns with TN Ready Social Studies Standard 8.11.

Each text is introduced with the following directions:

Number your paragraphs.  While reading the text, annotate to show your thinking and understanding of the text using the following: thinking marks, margin notes, highlighting, underlining, and/or circling.  Highlighted words or phrases must be accompanied by margin notes.  Margin notes can summarize, clarify, make connections, show wonderings, or explain thinking notes. IF SOMETHING IS UNDERLINED, YOU MUST WRITE A MARGIN NOTE.  

After the students do a scaffolded Close Read, they summarize and complete serveral text dependent questions.

Each text comes with a modified version that not only modifies the text, but the assignment as well to scaffold struggle students.

An optional homework rubric is included that assessed students based on neatness, completeness, and effort.
