Engage your students while reading Avi’s The Fighting Ground. The novel packet includes: includes: chapter specific comprehension questions, vocabulary by page number, clock summaries for retell, open response, and rubrics for grading. An answer key in included in the packet with answers to vocabulary, questions, summaries, and an exemplar for the open response.
Comprehension Questions expect students to:
-retell important events
-make predictions
-draw conclusions
-answer higher order thinking questions
Clock Summary Pages: During an important time chapter, have students write down the most important events. This is a helpful tool during the final open response, or to check for understanding!
Final Open Response asks students to compare and contrast Jonathan's feelings about war from the beginning to the end of the book. Graphic organizer is provided.
