What educators are saying

I used this resource to build a lesson that incorporated a funeral for words and had an artistically talented student create a cemetery in our classroom for the occasion. Students loved it.

Description

Your students will have a blast learning how to increase their vocabulary in speaking and writing with this vocabulary activity! The Dead Word Wall is a fun and interactive way for students to understand how to use more interesting and descriptive words in their language and in their writing. Included in this package is the objective and procedures for the activity, a list of characters, the eulogy format to use each time, the web address for the funeral dirge, tombstones with the "dead words" written on them and a blank one to add your own words, a 6 page list of commonly used words in student writing that could be added to the "Dead Word Wall", and a page for writing the better word choices. Students will keep this page and add to it, each time you have another "Dead Word" ceremony. This 24 page booklet gives you everything you need to get started. Have fun!

This activity is classroom tested in a third grade, but could be applicable to any grade level.
