Description
The Color of Friendship is a Disney Channel film that is based on a true story. It follows the journey of two young girls in 1977--one from America and one from South Africa--as they participate in a student exchange program and learn more than they could have ever imagined.
I remember when this film originally aired on Disney channel in 2000. It made a lasting impression on me as a student, and was immensely beneficial in helping me to understand Apartheid. So, when I became a teacher and Kaffir Boy was added to our curriculum, I remembered this film and it has proven to be an excellent addition to my unit plan. It really helps students to grasp the concept of Apartheid a bit more. If you are teaching a unit about South Africa or Apartheid, please consider showing this film.
