The Christmas Tree Factory - Trees from Around the World, Craft and Activities

Many of my students' parents work in factories in and around our town, so the manufacturing process is familiar to them. While I aspire them to be doctors and lawyers, their parents career choice can't be discounted. So I created this activity as a way for them to be included in family discussions, give them a feel for product completion from start to finish, and include a fun Christmas twist!

Begin by using the included big book, Christmas Trees from Around the World. Either print or project the big book and use as a whole group read aloud. Students will see photos with a description of trees from different countries. This is a fun way to connect your Christmas Around the World Units and hook them on the decorating trees concept. There's a comprehension printable included.

You'll set up a mini Christmas Tree "Factory" in your classroom, in which a small group of students make a cute tree craft with any materials you have on hand really (bingo daubers could be lights, poms for ornaments, etc.). There is a illustrated craft card to show you and your students how to make the craft. There is a factory poster, along with material table tents included. I've provided extra factory optional materials, such as display cards and a writing printable. Templates to make the tree are provided. You'll need paper tubes or cardstock to roll for the tree base.

Lastly, there is a differentiated math center included to use as an extension to the Tree Factory. It includes adding the decoration values of various trees. Students will be adding values from 1 to 7, with three levels of difficulty. There is a direction card and recording sheet included as well.
