The Traits/Characteristics of Civilization

The main goal of this lesson is to have students describe and apply the various traits of civilization

For the Activities there are 4 different options based around 2 different resources

Resource 1: 625-word reading on the Characteristics of Civilization

Resource 2: 170-word chart on the Characteristics of Civilization

Activity Option 1 – Students complete a graphic organizer where they describe the traits of civilization and how they might benefit/improve society

Activity Option 2 – In a similar graphic organizer to option 1, students apply the traits of civilization to our modern world and come up with examples that we have in society today.

Activity Option 3 - A combination of options 1 and 2, students use a box chart to describe how the traits can benefit an ancient civilization, and apply these traits to our modern world

Activity Option 4 – Students complete the “Match it up” worksheet where they are given 10 different statements and must decide which trait each statement falls under.

Full Answer keys provided for each activity option!

This lesson has been adapted for digital learning. Students can use apps such as LuminPDF or Dochub to complete and submit the fillable PDF files.
