What educators are saying

Used some of the questions with other resources and edited to fit the needs of my class. This was very useful.
I showed The Birds in my Video Production I class as part of a unit on suspense. This resource was a wonderful way to make sure students were actually watching the movie. Some of them found the movie too slow---whatever.

Description

The following nine-page study guide film packet that can be used in an English, film studies, or media studies class is used to accompany Alfred Hitchcock's iconic suspense film "The Birds" starring Tippi Hedren. The first page contains a list of cast and crew and a background and introduction on the film. The second page is a page that allows viewers to jot and take down their own notes. Pages three, four, five, and six contain comprehension questions to guide the viewer on the work's camera movement, character archetypes, characterization, cinematography, conflict, editing, foreshadowing, inferences, irony, lighting, plot, setting, sound, story, symbolism, suspense, and themes. The seventh and eighth pages contain discussion questions on the work's acting, characterization, conflicts, costume design, irony, motifs, plot, setting, sound, style, symbolism, and themes. The ninth and last page is a genre study page that asks students to analyze what is evident in "The Birds" as a disaster or apocalyptic film regarding its subject matter, style/technique, and morals/ideologies/themes.

A quiz that can be used as a summative assessment with this packet, a formative assessment, is available as a separate purchase.
