What educators are saying

I used this with incarcerated students with very limited reading comprehension abilities. They did well with this activity.

Description

This resource for teaching about the Alamo features a great story on ghost sightings there along with the essential understandings for students of what happened there between American settlers and Santa Anna's army prior to the Mexican-American War.

The 2-page story is written at a level for middle or high school students and is perfect to use for Halloween or a lesson on America's expansion.

Following the reading is a 2-page worksheet that includes 8 Common Core-aligned questions to check students reading comprehension and critical thinking skills as well as a short answer in which students analyze the men's actions at the Alamo through a descriptive adjective.

Both an editable Google Docs version and answer key are both included for your convenience.

A separate, but corresponding lesson can be found here on Mexican American War Lesson Plan which includes a PowerPoint, printables, and more!
