My principal came to me weeks before school started asking me if I could pick up an elective course for our huge 8th grade class. I took on the challenge as he said I could make it whatever I wanted to be, so I went with podcasts!
This lesson is heavy in the listening and speaking standards while also being loose, fun, and creative. For this lesson, we listened to "That's just weird..." podcast by Aaron Mahnke on Spotify episodes 8 and 16. While the students listened, they filled out the word document included with 3 things they heard while listening to the podcast. I also included a PowerPoint with pictures of the weird news stories to give the students a visual with teacher notes on slide 9.
