Thanksgiving STEM activities that include challenges to explore engineering and everyday marvels of the Pilgrims and Wampanoag people. For each group of people there is a tool, a house or home, and a boat for students to design and create. There are additional challenge prompts as well. Thanksgiving STEM Video Overview
Pilgrim STEM Marvels
Learn about the Pilgrims by recreating some of their tools and structures! This resource includes a simple research component plus three stem challenges:
- Capstan Challenge
- Pilgrim House Challenge
- Mayflower Challenge
For each challenge, there is the option of simple or more advanced design criteria (suitable for a wide age range). There is also a recording sheet or option of graphic organizer to follow the engineering design process. Use at any time or as a Thanksgiving STEM investigation.
As a bonus, there are 12 additional STEM challenge task cards, which can be done individually or in small groups at your Maker Space or STEM Station.
Wampanoag STEM Marvels
Learn about the Wampanoag Native Americans by recreating some of their tools and structures! This resource includes a simple research component plus three stem challenges:
- Bow and Arrow Challenge ➶ ➷ ➸ ➹
- Wetu Challenge ▲
- Mishoon (canoe) Challenge ╘═══╛
