Thanksgiving Non-Fiction Reading Comprehension & Graphic Organizers

This non-fiction passage is courtesy of Wikipedia, Simplified English. The passage tells a short history of Thanksgiving. Included in the packet are six Common Core Aligned comprehension activities:

*KWL Chart* Students will use the passage to answer three short answer questions. They will use direct quotes from the passage to support their answers. RI.4.1

*Main Idea & Detail* Students will answer questions about two unfinished Main Idea & Detail webs. RI.4.2

*Timeline Practice* Students will use the passage and a provided timeline to answer 2 multiple choice and 1 short answer question. RI.4.5

*Cause & Effect* Students will fill in the blanks for one missing cause and one missing effect, based on the passage. Then they will use the passage to complete their own cause and effect sequence. RI.4.5

*Compare & Contrast* Students will use the passage and their own experiences to complete a chart comparing and contrasting Thanksgiving in 1621 to Thanksgiving Today. RI.4.6

*Short Answers with Proof* Students will use the passage to answer three short answer questions. They will use direct quotes from the passage to support their answers. RI.4.1

*Vocabulary Work* Students will use context clues and their own knowledge to choose the appropriate definition for six vocabulary words from the passage. RI.4.4

Along with the vocabulary work pages are six vocabulary cards, provided in full color and in black and white.

Also included in this pack are two options for Thanksgiving themed writing paper, each provided in full color and grayscale. Have your students use these fun writing pages to take this activity one step further by using the graphic organizers to write paragraphs about Thanksgiving. W.4.2
